First Lady Rev. Wilhelmenia Moore

 The daughter of the late United Methodist Church Pastor, the Reverend John E. Evans, Sr. and mother, Mrs. Luella P. Evans, Reverend Wilhelmenia C. Moore grew up in the United Methodist Church denomination. She began her spiritual training early in life, on occasion serving as a delegate to the United Methodist Annual Conference.

In 1969, Reverend Wilhelmenia wed Pastor Philip Moore at the former location of Unity Baptist Church in Elkridge, Maryland, where Pastor Philip was a member, and the church was then pastored by the late Reverend Samuel Moore, Pastor Philip Moore’s father. During Pastor Moore’s tour of duty in the military, the coupled resided in Killeen, Texas, returning to Maryland and reuniting with Unity Baptist in 1971. In March 1974, Reverend Wilhelmenia was baptized in the Baptist faith, becoming an official member of Unity Baptist Church. Though she has called Unity “her church” since 1971, in 2021, she was blessed to mark 50 years of fellowship within the Unity Baptist Church Family. “Study to show thyself approved unto God; rightly dividing the word of God.

 In training and preparing for ministry, Reverend Wilhelmenia attended the Washington Saturday School at Howard University for several years. She subsequently transitioned to the Baltimore School of the Bible, successfully completing her coursework and graduating in 2007. Reverend Wilhelmenia is a gifted teacher and preacher. On each 4th Sunday of the month, she could be found in the pulpit at Unity, ministering to God’s people through the preached word. Reverend Wilhelmenia’s faith is firmly rooted in the word. Her favorite scripture, found in the Book of Romans is what both grounds her and propels her in her ministry.

 The year 2022 not only marks 20 years of pastoring for Reverend Philip, but also Reverend Wilhelmenia’s 20th Anniversary as First Lady of Unity Baptist Church, a role to which she is devoted and that has been filled with ministries of service and love. Over the course of the past 20 years, Reverend Wilhelmenia has led and/or participated in Congregational Care Ministries (Presentation of Roses on Mother’s Day for Every Mother in Unity Baptist Church as an expression of First Lady’s Love; Youth Ministry coordinator and event Bus Driver; Deaconess Board; and Acquiring Donations, Purchasing and Distributing Thanksgiving and Christmas Food Baskets (inherited from the former First Lady, Deacon Beaula Moore)); Teaching Ministries (Board of Christian Education, New Member Classes ,Teacher: Primary, and High School Sunday School Classes; and, Vacation Bible School Coordinator (inherited from the former First Lady, Deacon Beaula Moore), and Worship Ministries (Member of the Samuel Moore Spiritualist Choir Ministry; Launched Women’s Ministry, Co-Chair of Unity’s 95th

 Church Anniversary with Former First Lady, Deacon Beaula Moore; Member of Unity’s 100th Church Anniversary Committee; and, Coordinator of the Advent Candle Ceremony as a Family Ministry (inherited from the former First Lady, Deacon Beaula Moore. She describes being First Lady as one of the most rewarding, yet demanding experiences of her life, one that calls upon her daily to serve the people of Unity, whom she affectionately refers to as “my family Reverend Wilhelmenia is the biggest supporter of her husband, and Unity’s illustrious pastor, the Reverend Philip L. Moore, Sr. She and Pastor Moore are the proud parents of two adult daughters, Heather Renee, and January Nicole, one son, Philip II, and the devoted grandparents of eleven grandchildren.
